Reflection 1

I had a really positive experience with the SAC this week. It was a good exercise to get us into "critical thinking mode." It's been a little while since I had to sit down with a topic and deconstruct the argument of a writer. We did a lot of that in Lauren's English 1A class when we read the critical essays about Huck Finn, and that was last fall, so it's been a little while for me.

I felt that our group did a really good job presenting the main points of each author, and everyone was very well prepared for the discussion. Because of that, we were able to have a really good conversation about both sides of the issue. We were all very respectful of each other's feelings, and no one was attacked, or felt that they needed to explain why they feel the way they do about this sensitive topic.

I havent taken a english class in almost 2 years. So, it is refreshing, and intimdating at the same time, to go back to analyzing and "critical thinking mode."
So far, it seems like that most groups had a great discussion. It's nice to have a discussion, when all the group members are prepare.

It seems like such a long time since English 1A! I feel like I have to start getting back into critical thinking mode too. I was glad that I didn’t read the “other side” essay last week because it was nice to hear from the people in our group and how they had all picked similar points.

Yes...critical thinking. I'm a bit rusty, but lucky for me, my Speech teacher put me to work over the summer and I haven't completely lost it!

I think the SAC is really good way to develop our critical thinking, too. In the process of the SAC, we can get the ideas from the authors and the group members, and those information and ideas that we have got can inject fresh blood to our views, so that we can have a wider vision to see this world. I really like this class as we are having a more open mind for the critical thinking.

I too, was impressed with the level of respectful conversation we've been able to have so far - it looks like this will continue throughout and I hope, even, that we can see how a really heated discussion or topic can be worked through with these principles that Lauren is introducing - so in a way, I would like to see how it works when things are a little less comfortable...
